Gina has always had an interest in Art and Textiles but it was only when giving up work to raise her family that she pursued her interest, initially taking a Foundation Course in Art and Design and a textiles course with the Open College of the Arts. Over the ensuing years various City and Guilds courses in Machine embroidery followed resulting in a Diploma in machine embroidery and it is here that her passion lies. She likes to work with the machine building up colour and texture in a spontaneous way, combining materials such as paper, metal and wire as well as fabric, using machine embroidery to bring the elements together.
Designs are often taken from nature but inspiration will frequently come from a colour or texture or even the written word. Gina also has a particular interest in fashion, costume and accessories, both theatrical and as worn every day.
Gina is an experienced teacher and adult education tutor, teaching both City and Guilds as well as leisure classes at various venues around the UK. She teaches at Missenden Abbey and was an invited tutor at the 2009 Jersey Textile Showcase. She regularly exhibits with the Cambridge Open Studios and is a member of the Prism exhibiting group.
