Sarah Jordan
For the first time since its inception four years ago the winner of the £1000.00 award for technical excellence at Artisan Showcase, the premier art event in the Channel Islands, went to a textile artist, Sarah Jordan.
Sarah continues to push the boundaries with her work, continually experimenting with the very latest materials available. She enjoys a more mixed media approach, incorporating stitch alongside with treated surfaces, wire, metals and traditional textile techniques. Traveling extensively around Asia and now living in Jersey, Sarah is constantly drawn to nature as a source of inspiration.
Recent small pieces use wire pieces to reflect jewel like qualities found in colourful corals. Handmade Shibori felt adds weight and depths of rock pools. Sarah constantly challenges her materials, embellishing and reconstructing surfaces.
In April, Sarah won the award for the use of innovation in textile art at the Jersey Textile Showcase 2005 and is currently exhibiting in a major exhibition Blue - Where the Sky meets the Sea and The Shore at the Harbour Gallery, Jersey.
Sarah won the award for Surface Texture at Textile Showcase 2009.
