Susan Macarthur
Susan Macarthur is a Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen. She studied Fine Art at California State Long Beach and Laguna Beach School of Art and whilst drawing, painting and sculpting discovered fabric and stitch.
On returning to England she has since taken City & Guilds I & II in Textiles and gone on to experiment with different techniques and materials to portray the human form.
For some reason, like thousands before me, I am continually drawn to the drama of the figure. The abstract shapes produced by light and dark combine with an underlying layering of pattern and texture that help to create a three dimensional effect. I use a combination of fabric, paper, acrylic paint, charcoal, dyes and threads and like the unpredictable occurrences that can arise with these materials.
