Art in the Frame has now set up the Contemporary Textile Group which aims to meet about 6 times a year leading to Textile Showcase which will run from April 1-4, 2004.
Unusual and unique textile materials stocked at the Harbour Gallery - pay us a visit.
Opportunities in contemporary textiles are now so diverse that basic skills can be taken further than ever before with new techniques, materials and technology.
More island schools are producing exciting, experimental, contemporary textile work with many students going on to follow textile degrees.
We have noticed that ourtextile workshops and lectures are always very well attended, there is so much local interest in this subject. With this in mind we hope to bring together a body of interested people willing to experience and, with expert input, push the boundaries of this medium forward with exciting results.
Aims of the group
We will regularly bring stimulating and inspirational textile artists to the island and also introduce the latest advances in materials and techniques to the group. Visits to the mainland to textile events & exhibitions will also be available.
We hope that this will produce discussions amongst like minded people leading to innovative outcomes and annual exhibitions with awards and bursaries available for further study.
For our first event on 30 January 2003, Louise Watson exhibited & gave a talk about her work and that of the Brunel Broderers. Louise also ran two weekend workshops on Saturday 1 & Sunday 2 February.
To join this group
There is no charge to join this group if you are a friend of Art in the Frame foundation. Details of the benefits are here and there's a printable application form here.
Leaflets for those interested in joining the group will be available at the Louise Watson talk and workshops.
Please fill in the leaflet and post it back to us [address here] so that we can then arrange a first meeting to discuss ideas, wishes & needs.
