Traveller, writer, lecturer and textile collector, John has been tracking down outstanding ethnic textiles for the past 30 years. Author of standard books on these textiles, he spends part of each year travelling in africa furthering his passion.
As well as contributing to many museum collections, John has lectured all over the world, most recently in the USA, Australia, and South Africa.
John will be giving 3 lectures whilst at the Textile Showcase in Jersey:

Colours of Cultures is an Art Charity Event. All art work is donated from local artists, inspired by other cultures. For each piece of work sold, fifty percent commission will go to the Jersey Disabled Holiday Group, a charity that pays for ten severely handicapped persons and their carers to go on a ten day holiday of a lifetime.
Venue: Gallery 2 The Harbour Gallery, St Aubin.

Opening night: Wednesday 28th April, 6 - 8.30pm. Diane Postlethwaite will open the exhibition at 7pm. Featuring live music from "Percussion Discussion". Refreshment available and all are welcome.

12,000 visitors in 2002, 14,000 visitors last year.
Venue: Country Fair, Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society Hall and grounds [map]. Free entry.
Friday 28 May: Opening party, free draw, live music and official opening, 6.00 - 8.30pm. To be officially opened by Mrs Elizabeth Jeffreys at 7.00pm. Live music from the Bossa Baseline Trio. Refreshments. Collect a free draw ticket at the door to be drawn at 8.00pm.
Saturday 29 May: Open to the public 10.00am - 6.00pm.
Sunday 30 May: 11.00 - 12.00 private awards ceremony. Open to the public 12.00am - 6.00pm.

Hugh Milsom MFIAP will give a lecture on the Art of Photography. Hugh Milsom is one of only six Masters of the Federation of International Photography in Great Britain. He has also been awarded a fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society.

From Apprenticeship to Self Employed Freelance Embroiderer - a lecture by Tracy A Franklin, the author of "NEW IDEAS IN GOLDWORK". Freelance specialist traditional embroiderer, trained at the Royal School of Needlework, continuing there as a teacher, before setting up her own business at the creative workspaces in "Fowlers Yard", County Durham.
