Creative Knitting by hand

One day workshop with tutor, teacher, designer Yvonne Le Signe. Using varying sizes of needles, varied yarns, strips of materials & lots more. Produce pieces for sample/sketchbook. Learn to make accessories & more.

Pattern Cutting Workshop
Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 February, 10.00am - 4.00pm
After many requests...a two day workshop with tutor, teacher, designer Yvonne Le Signe.
Venue: The Harbour Gallery, St Aubin [map]
Day 1: Introducing blocks for pattern cutting, how to make blocks, how to create different shapes. Practical - making own blocks, experiment with shapes to mock up in calico.
Day 2: How to drape fabric (calico) onto dressmaking bust to create innovative shapes and transpose on to paper to make pattern. Practical - creating own shapes and transpose onto to paper to make pattern.
Cost: Two day course: £115.00 (£110 friends). Price includes coffee, tea, biscuits and a hot lunch each day. Also calico, paper for patterns; you will need to bring a sewing machine - a simple one is fine.

Art for Half Term
Monday 23 to Friday 27 February
A series of morning or afternoon sessions for the half-term break with tutor Lisa MacDonald.
Venue: The Harbour Gallery, St Aubin [map]
Morning sessions (5 years to 8 years): 10.00am - 12.30pm. Monday to Friday inclusive. To include making treasure maps, animals, space, under the sea, nature ...... drawing, painting, collage making.
Afternoon sessions (9 years to 14 years): 1.45pm - 4.15pm. Monday to Friday inclusive. Be inspired by a different artist each day, e.g. Klee, Monet, Kandinsky etc...drawing, painting, collage, mask making, animals etc...
General information - Children from the same family but different age groups can be left together.
All children must be confident and happy to be left by themselves.
Cost: £12.00 a session. Price includes refreshment and materials.

Cartoon Capers 1
13, 14, 20 & 21 March, 10.00am - 4.00pm
Cartoon Capers, a series of 4 workshops at the Harbour Gallery that can be either taken as a pair of sessions or all 4 together.

The course looks at how you can create your very own exciting cartoon characters and put them into a simple story.
With experienced cartoonist Giles Robson, you will look at the history of cartoons, their most famous moments and practitioners. Using the lessons of cartoon anatomy, caricature and acting - you will learn how to assemble your own original characters.
We will look at joke and comic strip construction and using our own characters, construct comic or even dramatic situations with beginnings middles and ends.
Cartoon capers is a course suitable for both the very young, and the not so very young - but young at heart.....8 to 80!
All materials provided, but please bring either photographs or clear magazine/newspaper images of interesting people.
Cost: £12.75 a session or all 4 for £48.00. To include coffee/tea/soft drinks & biscuits. Limited numbers on all sessions.

Sculptural Workshop
Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 March, 10.00am - 4.00pm
A two day workshop with tutor Peter Knight. "Exciting large sculptural collage for the home".
Venue: The Harbour Gallery, St Aubin [map]
Create an exciting addition to the interior decor of your home. Use a wide variety of collage materials to include flat pebbles, varied thicknesses of string & rope, textured paper and crumpled tissue, polyfilla, foam board, bubble wrap, pva adhesive and acrylics.
You might like to think where your collage will be hung and some ideas of colours to suit. Experience not essential - you will surprise yourself!
Cost: Two day course: £95.00 (£90.00 friends). Price includes £15 worth of materials, coffee, tea and wine with a buffet lunch each day.

Two workshops with Jan Beaney
18 & 19 September
LIMITED SPACES ON BOTH WORKSHOPS.
Workshop 1 – Sumptuous surfaces, rocks and minerals:
Applique, hand with some machine embroidery (not compulsory). An experimental workshop building up sumptuous surfaces inspired by rocks and minerals.
The workshop will include making a range of textural fabric surfaces followed by appropriate stitches to capture cragginess, encrustation, glimmer and sparkle.
Date: Saturday, 18 September, 10.00am - 4.30pm. Please arrive by 9.45am for coffee.

Workshop 2 – Create a miniature landscape or garden:
Using landscape or gardens as the design source, simple applied images can be arranged into a pleasing composition. This can be further adorned with textural HAND STITCHES including the infinite variety of effects that couching can offer.

A "jewel in the crown"
Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 November, 10.00am - 4.00pm
Two one-day workshops. A jewel in the crown, or on the wall! Lace and beaded embroidery with Christine Witham(Winner of Textile & Recycling Awards, Artisan Showcase 3). Create a jewel-like picture in just one day using antique lace, silk, beads and various techniques. The workshops cover composition and colour. ALL MATERIALS SUPPLIED.

Paint, print, stitch, collage, drawing, puppet making, badges, mobiles, etc. with popular teacher Sarah Jordan.
For children aged 6-11 years.

Each session is from 10am to 12.30pm.

Saturday: Feltmaking and Shibori. Combine the two to create a piece of sculpted textiles.

Tracy Franklin
Friday 19 to Sunday 21 November
Tracy A Franklin will be giving three workshops. She is the author of "NEW IDEAS IN GOLDWORK", a freelance specialist traditional embroiderer, trained at the Royal School of Needlework, continuing there as a teacher, before setting up her own business at the creative workspaces in "Fowlers Yard", County Durham.
Friday 19th November, 1.00pm - 4.00pm.
"TRADITIONAL GOLDWORK". Learn felt padding, gold thread couching and purl work as used in church work embroidery.
Cost: £30.00 (£26.00 friends). Materials included. Tea, coffee, biscuits provided.
Saturday 20th November 10.00am - 4.00pm
"GOLD AND SILK WORK". Learn techniques and then work in both a traditional and a contemporary way.

Nine workshops for Christmas.
A free Lucky Dip for all children 8 years and under & a present for those 9 years and over.

Age: 6 - 9 years
Cost: £12.00. All materials included. Biscuits and drinks provided.
Sunday 12th December, 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
"CHRISTMAS TASSELS" with Christine Witham.
Age: 8 - 12 years
Cost: £10.00. All materials included. Biscuits and drinks provided.
Sunday 19th December, 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
"CHRISTMAS CRAFTS FOR KIDS" with Penny Setubal.
Age: 6 years upward
Cost: £5.00 per hour (you have the option of one hour or 3 hours). All materials included. Biscuits and drinks provided.
Monday 20th December, 2.00pm to 4.30pm.
"CHRISTMAS CARTOON CHARACTER WORKSHOPS" with Giles Robson.
Age: 8 - 80 years
