Letter on the confusion between Carex capitata Hudson and the fem. C. dioica– 'whether it be the Linnaean plant, or only an accidentally fertile one of C. dioica... C. capitata of the Linnaean Herbarium is a different plant, and not a native of England. C. dioica is common on Hinton and Teversham moors, near Cambridge; and the fertile variety frequently grows among many individuals in their usual state. R. Relhan.' Relhan, Gentleman's Magazine, 1793,594 & Plate 1.
Carex dioica – my account in the Gent. Mag. is no doubt perfectly right. I have examined a great variety of specimens. Relhan in litt. to Withering 22 Oct. 1795, RSM.
Carex capitata, my remarks in the Gentleman's magazine [sorz] first determined that plant. I have specimens of C. flava, with androgynous heads, very like the capitata. Relhan,litt.1799.
