C. segetum Specimen: 'frequent in corn-fields on the South and South West of the parish [Whittlesford] towards Triplow and Ninewells. This plant frequently springs up in the fields towards the south and south west of the parish. Most probably introduced from other parts of the country. It was formerly a near plague to farmers but improved cultivation has kept it down and in some places it is nearly eradicated. Maynard MS.13:336.CRO.
