Verbascum lychnitis L. (V. pulverulentum Smith. E.B.487.)
First record: Lyons, 1763
Lyons introduced V. Lychnitis (Linn.) into the list of Cambridgeshire plants, as found 'in ruderatis.' Relhan inserted it in his Flora on the sole authority of Lyons. It is now nearly a cenury since Lyons wrote, and no botanist is known to have found the plant in the county. It seems therefore reasonable to suppose that some mistake caused its name to appear in the Fasciculus. Bab.1860,163 & Bab.MS.Fl.519v.
