JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH by Roald Dahl Review and poster >>> Director: Rhona Richards Congratulations to all who took part in James and the Giant Peach which was performed at the Jersey Opera House during the last two weekends of June 2007. The show got a wonderful review. "....the Jersey Amateur Dramatic Society's interpretation at the Opera House is fantastic.......a joy to watch......the show is a real delight for kids, mums and dads" and the audience reception was wonderful. More children's shows please seemed to be the general response. The cast were charismatic and a joy to watch. Dominic Le Brun gave a star turn as James and the comic chemistry between Michelle Taylor and Jordan Livesey as the wicked aunts was a real hit with the audience. However, the highlight of the show for many children were the sharks - which just goes to show that you can have great performances, special effects, eye catching sets and still be upstaged by some haphazard squirts with a water pistol! The show featured original music composed and performed by four exceptionally talented young local musicians; Tom Machon (composer), Aaron Burrows (pianist), Leanne Tsang (pianist) and Emma Barrow (violin) are definitely names to remember if anyone needs versatile musical talent. Particular thanks must go to Gareth Thomas, Helen McLean, Val Nelson and Nick Carver. Gareth and Helen designed and built a superb set, Val created the most beautiful costumes and Nick's "James" posters were so popular that members of the audience were asking if they could buy them in the interval (possible future money spinner!) So many people complimented the visual impact of "James" and this was entirely due to the efforts and enthusiasm of Gareth, Helen, Val and Nick. Well done and thank you to everyone involved! |
