Croupier
Screening: 10 May 2003
UK 1998
Directed by Mike Hodges
Leading Players - Clive Owen, Alex Kingston, Gena McKee.
Synopsis
Jack Manfred (Clive Owen) is perfectly cast as the croupier a job
that demands expressionless features and, very possibly, a stony heart.
As the camera lovingly follows Clive Owen, we learn in the voiceover narrative
that he is a writer who cannot write and so works as a card dealer in a
London casino.
The strong female cast play the three women who fit into the two contrasting
areas of Jacks life. But who will win the game? Who will beat the
odds?

Croupier is a stylish thriller with good character development and a few
surprises along the way.
