Film Society has been extremely fortunate to have such a renowned figure
from the film world as a guest speaker.
In the past, Mr Malcolm has introduced Bandit Queen,
Il Postino and The Story
of Qiu Ju.
Derek Malcolm is best known as the long standing, highly respected film
critic with The
Guardian. As his retirement coincided with the celebrations of '100
years of cinema' he was asked to contribute writings on his favourite films.

He is currently President of the British Federation of Film Societies and
FIPRESCI, the International Film Critics' Circle which is responsible for
awarding prizes at all major film festivals.
As the U.K.'s foremost film critic, Mr. Malcolm is regularly seen on the
small screen. He has also written a biography of Hollywood legend Robert
Mitchum.
