Welcome to 2004
Jersey Branch wishes all members a Happy New Year and we hope to see
as many of you as possible at our meetings and social events. Roger
is putting together a programme for our monthly meetings in 2004 and
would be pleased to hear from anyone who can suggest speakers suitable
for our gatherings. Tel:- 731145.
Last Meeting
To round off the year, Eileen organised a horse racing night for the
November meeting and this brought out much banter and rivalry amongst
members. It was a good fun night with a lot of laughing. Mince pies
and mulled wine added to a very enjoyable evening.

Social Get-Togethers
Bowls and lunch
Peter Hobson is organising this outing on Tuesday 10th February 2004
at 12 noon at Jersey Bowl, St. Peter and we will be having lunch there
as well. Please phone Peter on 724660 if you would like to join in.
Sufferers ad carers will be paid for by the branch. Paying supporters
are always welcome.
Supper
Eileen is organising a supper at "The Corbiere Phare" on
Friday 27th February at 6.15 p.m. Please phone 737128, to book, no
later than Friday 20th February 2004. This again will be free to sufferers
and carers. Paying supporters welcome.
Subscriptions
It is that time of year unfortunately when we have to send out notices
for the annual subscriptions, however the good news is that despite
massive postal charge increases we have decided to absorb these once
again, so that the £5 subscription now represents even better
value, especially for those who attend social functions with us. We
are increasingly conscious of the number of former carers in our membership
and it has been decided that when a carer/member is bereaved they
will remain entitled to full benefits for the remainder of that year
but after that they will have the status of supporters, so that they
may remain members but will need to pay for meals etc. at our social
functions. We very much hope that former carers will remain members,
as we really do value their support and we hope that they value the
social side of our Society and continue to support our aims. It is
felt we need to make this clear as we nowadays provide more and more
events free of charge to suffers and carers and cannot at the same
time pay for a growing number of former carers.
Next meeting
Our next meeting as usual will be at Communicare, at 8 p.m. on Tuesday
27th January and this will be our A.G.M. and we hope to have a good
attendance to support our hardworking committee. The existing committee
are willing to be re-elected but if anyone else wishes to stand for
election we could increase the size of the committee, indeed it has
at times been larger than at present. Anyone wishing to stand should
notify our secretary, Joyce Marriott, in writing, to Spring Tide,
Victoria Avenue, St. Helier JE2 3TB. A proposer and seconder will
be needed from the membership and nominations should be received by
26th January at the latest. We normally deal with the formalities
of the A.G.M. fairly quickly and we make it as light hearted as possible
and there will be time to socialise afterwards. We hope to see you
there. |
